Dress for Success is a worldwide non-profit that supports women and helps them to achieve economic independence by providing a support network, professional attire, and a variety of development tools. Since 1997, Dress for Success has worked with countless women to help them accomplish their goals. With years of work, Dress for Success has expanded to nearly 150 affiliates in 25 different countries. HomeWorks Energy is proud to partner with Dress for Success Boston (DSB), our local affiliate.
This year, DSB is working to promote their 20 for 20 campaign. In honor of their 20+ years of service, 20 or more businesses will be making donations to support DSB in their work. DSB collaborates with more than 5,000 organizations around the world to assist women with suiting and career counselling.
When 2020 started, Dress for Success Boston, had been working with more than 1000 women per year. When Covid-19 struck, DSB, like many groups, adapted to the times and pivoted to continue their important work.
With their office being closed until at least June, they have temporarily switched to a completely online model with a ‘virtual suiting program.’ In the past, professional attire was received by donation, or purchased through monetary donations and given to the women. Now, women connect with a personal shopper from Dress for Success Boston, where more than 25 of their 100 volunteers pitch in regularly. Clients are guided through online shopping on Amazon Prime, and clothes are delivered or left at an Amazon lock box for pick-up.
Dress for Success Boston believes every woman has a right to make the most of her life, and that a little support can go a long way in realizing that. Poverty can affect women dramatically, and it’s beyond difficult to work out of situations like that. Gender equality is a vital part of a sustainable and fair world, and Dress for Success Boston’s mission helps to ensure an equal and just society for everyone. By empowering women and helping to meet their needs, it makes a world of difference in their personal and professional lives.
